What you should know about umbrella coverage
Umbrella insurance provides additional liability protection above your home and auto policies. It’s designed to protect your assets, income, and future if a serious claim or lawsuit exceeds your standard coverage limits.
At a minimum, your limit should cover your total net worth (home equity, savings, and investments). Most policies start at $1 Million, but for families with high earning potential or significant assets, we often recommend $2M to $5M.
It extends your liability for auto accidents and home incidents, but it also adds 'New' coverage. This includes protection against libel, slander, false arrest, and even liability claims occurring while you are traveling outside the U.S.
No—but it becomes more important as you build assets. If you own a home, have savings, or earn a strong income, you have something worth protecting. Umbrella coverage is one of the most cost-effective ways to protect what you’ve built.
High limits are a great start—but serious claims can exceed even those. Umbrella coverage fills that gap and ensures you're not exposed in worst-case scenarios.
Not sure what your net worth requires? We’ll help you calculate your exposure and find the right limit—no pressure, just protection.
